So Kobe goes off in the All-Star Game and all the NBA “experts” say the dominant Kobe is back and he is sending a message to the rest of the NBA? I don’t hanging 37 points in a glorified pick-up game that features really crappy defense means “you’re back”.

Andy Reid has finally gone bonkers. First he fires defensive coordinator Sean McDermott (who is now a Carolina Panther by the way :-D) who lead the Eagles D to #11 ranking in scoring defense in his first full season as coordinator….

Then he promotes OFFENSIVE Line coach Juan Castillo to DEFENSIVE coordinator. Castillo was an Linebacker in college but has never coached in the NFL on the defensive side of the ball.

I’m thinking this is going to go poorly.

Pro Bowl vs NHL All Star Game

After watching the NHL All Star Game and NFL Pro Bowl yesterday, I came away with a stunning conclusion….the NHL got it right…and the NFL completely tossed up a dud.

The NHL All Star Weekend was a stroke of genius to revolve it around the two fantasy picked teams of Team Staal and Team Lidstrom. The players had fun all weekend, joked around, played to the fans and showed their personality. All of this done in the absence of the NHL’s brightest star, Sidney Crosby.

The Pro Bowl was a dud. The players seemed bored, disinterested and did not care to be there.

I am a football fan first and hockey fan second, but the NHL hit a homerun with the Fantasy Draft concept. I hope they stick with it because it did make the weekend what it was supposed to be: a show for the fans.

Well, I’m from Wilson, NC (a city in Eastern NC).

The college question is a very complicated one. I guess a majority of the time I pull for UNC, but I pull for a slew of college teams: ECU, Boise State, Appalachian State Syracuse. I’m sure that was more answer than you were wanting, but now you know :-)

Florida State pounces on #1 for the fourth time in eight years….just so happens that Duke was the team that was team all three times. Coach Leonard Hamilton has always seemingly coached wildly inconsistent teams, but he has coached them up well to pull the home upset.

There must be something in that Tallahassee home cooking because we are starting to see this a lot at FSU:

Turns out, Lynch’s TD shook Qwest Field and the ground around the stadium — literally.

Vidale said a seismic monitoring station located about 100 yards west of the stadium registered seismic activity during Lynch’s run. The shaking was most intense during a 30-second stretch about the time Lynch broke free from the line of scrimmage, finished off his touchdown and celebrated in the end zone with his teammates.

After that, Vidale said, the shaking died down, but it took about a minute for the shaking to completely fade away.

BCS Turf Monster?

Great game last night!! Congrats to Auburn on a clutch win.

But did anyone else noticed the terrible turf conditions?

Guys had a terrible time making cuts, the painted areas (midfield logo, end zones) were really slick and the turf came up in chunks.

I lived in Arizona for a while and went to quite a few Arizona Cardinals game and never saw the turf that bad. Don’t you think that for such a HUGE game that BCS organizers would get the playing surface in good shape?

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera will be hired as the Carolina Panthers next head coach.

Rivera is certainly in the mold of past Panther coaches, those who are defensive minded, and Rivera will undoubtedly bring his 3-4 system to Carolina. The Panthers thrived on defense under Dom Capers attacking 3-4 defense.

Yet, Panther fans need patience. The Panthers have few defensive personnel suited for the 3-4, but in time this looks to be a sneaky good hire by Jerry Richardson.
